Pedro Pascual (Miami, Fla.) finished fifth at the 2021 Allianz regatta in a fleet of 21. Pascual entered the medal race in tenth and moved up to fifth on the final race, capping off his best regatta of 2021. He will represent the United States at the Tokyo Olympics this summer in the Men’s RS:X fleet and is wrapping up final preparations.
US Sailing has confirmed the names of the 13 sailors who will represent the United States at the Olympic Games this coming July and August near Tokyo, Japan. The team hails from nine U.S. states and territories including California, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, Rhode Island, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Wisconsin. The finalization of the team roster comes after nearly five years campaigning by not only the 13 Olympic Team nominees, but dozens of additional American sailors who were part of U.S. Sailing’s Olympic Team selection process.
The panel discussed ways their affiliated sailing organizations have implemented strategies to increase awareness and opportunities in sailing for more diverse populations. Panelists represented organizations from different focus areas of the sport, including college sailing, professional racing, grassroots DEI program, and the US Sailing DEI Committee. I write to you today with incredible excitement, having just joined US Sailing as its new Chief Executive Officer. Given your important place in the sailing community, I wanted to connect initially to introduce myself in this manner for now at the very start of my time with US Sailing.
US Sailing launched the debut of the West Marine US Open Sailing Series at the beginning of the year with host yacht clubs in Florida including three events in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Clearwater that took place January and February. The second half of the 2021 West Marine US Open Sailing Series in California gets underway this summer at major sailing venues including San Diego, Long Beach, and San Francisco. Registration is now open for San Diego and Long Beach.
