US Sailing Team (Olympic Classes)
Each year, based on posted requirements, US Sailing selects eligible athletes to represent their country as members of the US Sailing Team. The procedures and requirements for 2021 US Sailing Team Selection and Funding were published December 2, 2020.
2020 Olympic Games Team
The 2020 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXII Olympiad, will be held from July 23 to August 8, 2021 in and around Tokyo, Japan. Fifteen athletes will represent the United States of America in ten Olympic classes. US Sailing is responsible for selecting and supporting the members of Team USA, many or all of whom will be drawn from the roster of the US Sailing Team (selection procedures published December 12, 2018).
2021 Junior Pan American Games Team
The first-ever Junior Pan American Games will be held from November 25-December 5, 2021 in Cali, Colombia. This international multi-sport event is for athletes in the Americas aged 18 to 22. The Sailing events will be ILCA-Radial (ILCA 6), ILCA-Standard (ILCA 7), and Men's and Women's iQFoil. The gold medalists in each event will directly qualify for the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. This is an entry spot in addition to those available through the standard country qualification procedure, resulting in an additional berth in each 2023 Pan American Games Sailing event. The entry is awarded to the winning athletes, not the country, and is not transferable to other athletes. Selection procedures were published on April 6 2021 and were revised to May 13, 2021 to reflect the new Games dates.
Youth Worlds Team
Each year, US Sailing selects one eligible prospective athlete in each of the single‐handed classes and one team of two eligible prospective athletes for each of the double‐handed classes to represent their country at the Youth Sailing World Championships. The 2020 event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. US Sailing will release qualification details when the venue and dates are announced for the 2021 Youth Sailing World Championships.
