US Sailing Coaches Slated to Leverage GoPro Footage to Aid in Coaching Efforts

US Sailing’s 12th new partner since 2023

BRISTOL, R.I. (April 24, 2024) – US Sailing, the national governing body of the sport of sailing, is proud to announce GoPro as the Official Action Camera of US Sailing & The US Sailing Team through the 2024 season. This is US Sailing’s 12th new partner since 2023.

“Video technology plays an integral role when reviewing performances, testing new equipment, and fine-tuning physical techniques,” said High Performance Director Marcus Lynch. Our coaches use video from GoPro Cameras – which must stand up to the same harsh conditions our athletes compete in – to maximize athlete success.”

GoPro’s line of HERO cameras has become a staple in the sailing world. Between the waterproof nature and versatile design, GoPro cameras are an invaluable tool for reliably capturing athlete content, aiding in coaching, tuning, and more.

“We’ve seen some jaw-dropping content come from US Sailing teams throughout the years. It’s the perfect combination of a compact, mount-anywhere action camera with incredibly elite athletes, which makes for what we call ‘thumb-stopping’ content,” says Rick Loughery, GoPro Vice President of Global Marketing & Communications. “This partnership will further ensure that elite US Sailing competitors—up to the International level—can benefit from improved coaching and shareable video of their sport, all from GoPro.”

At a youth level, GoPro will support US Sailing’s Junior Olympic Festivals with cameras to help coaches improve the technique of their sailors, as well as onsite branding and partner-branded pinnies for athletes to wear.

And finally, for spectators, GoPro will also be a supporter of US Sailing’s live-streamed events in 2024. In 2023, the US Youth Championship was live-streamed to 12K viewers across the four-day event window. This will grow to three in 2024, with live streams available on YouTube, Facebook, and ussailing.org.
