U.S. Youth Championships – Day 1 Report

Bristol, R.I. (July 8, 2015) – On Tuesday, a collection of the nation’s top young sailors launched into Mount Hope Bay from Roger Williams University’s sparkling new Bready Sailing Center for the start of the 2015 U.S. Youth Sailing Championships, the pinnacle event for youth sailors under 20 in the U.S.

The International 420, Laser Standard, Formula 16 and 29er fleets tallied four races on Tuesday, while the Laser Radials completed three races. Visit the event website for current standings.

Sailors were challenged in strong currents, and heavy air, with breezes approximately in the 5 to 12 knots range. Scattered thunderstorms are forecasted for Wednesday.

Many of this week’s winners will qualify for the US Sailing Team Sperry Youth World Team and compete at the 2015 ISAF Youth World Championships in Langkawi, Malaysia from December 27 to January 3.

The 2015 edition of the U.S. Youth Sailing Championships will be hosted by Roger Williams University at the newly constructed Richard L. Bready Mount Hope Bay Sailing and Education Center, and supported by the Bristol Yacht Club.
