Teams Descend on Bay Saint Louis for 2022 Adult Championship

Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi (October 26, 2022) – Ten teams from across the country will take to the water for the 2022 U.S. Adult Sailing Championship at Bay-Waveland Yacht Club in Mississippi. The event will be held in the Viper 640, with racing from Thursday, October 27 to Sunday, October 30. Teams were chosen by their Regional Sailing Associations to compete for the Clifford D. Mallory Trophy.

US Sailing would like to thank event sponsors Regatta Craft Mixers and Gill Marine for providing regatta gifts for competitors.

“Bay-Waveland Yacht Club is honored to host the competition again for the Mallory Trophy,” said Commodore and Co-Regatta Chair Clinton Edwards. “We last hosted this event in 2009, when it was the Mallory and Adams Trophies. The “Bay” welcomes the sailors and with them success on and off water.”

Several accomplished Viper 640 sailors will descend on Bay-Waveland Yacht Club in pursuit of the Clifford D. Mallory Trophy.

One team to watch out for is the local squad of Jackson Benvenutti, Andrew Eagan, and Chris Alexander, who are fresh off a win at Viper 640 North American Championship last weekend in neighboring Gulfport. They are representing the Gulf Yachting Association and Bay Waveland Yacht Club.

Also in attendance are this year’s Viper 640 Pacific Coast Champions Ed Feo, Chuck Tripp, and Kevin Taugher, representing the Southern California Yachting Association and Alamitos Bay Yacht Club.

Outside of the Viper 640 class, four-time 505 World Champion Michael Holt, representing Santa Cruz Yacht Club, had entered with his team of Bruce Edwards and Steve Broudow.

Teams can sail will three or four members at their discretion, provided total crew weight is below 700 lbs.
