Welcome to the first installment of the 2020 Season Preview. In this series of articles, we will be taking an in depth look at regattas on the 2020 calendar, including US Sailing Championships, USA Junior Olympic Sailing Festivals, and Class Association regattas.
US Sailing has named Supporting Centers for the Siebel Sailors Program: Alameda Community Sailing Center (Calif.), Golden Gate Yacht Club Youth Sailing Foundation (Calif.), Sheridan Shore Sailing School (Ill.), Jackson Park Yacht Club Foundation (Ill.), Sheboygan Youth Sailing Center (Wis.), Downtown Sailing Center (Md.), and Baltimore County Sailing Center (Md.)
This fall season was busy for the newly selected centers within the three regions of the Siebel Sailors Program. Each center accepted delivery of new RS Feva XL sailboats, rearranged their dock space to showcase the new fleet, and fit a Demo Day event into their already packed schedules! Luckily, the Mid-Atlantic region was blessed with ideal conditions that made each Demo Day a delight.
Over Thanksgiving weekend, Miami became a mecca for talented American sailors, as US Sailing’s Olympic Development Program (ODP) hosted its annual Racing Clinic at Miami Yacht Club. There, over 130 athletes spanning six classes were supported by 40 coaches, including ODP fleet coaches, Quantum Racing experts, and regional program coaches.
I can’t imagine a better way to spend my day: near the water, being with friends, buzzing around in a boat. I’m excited that the Siebel Sailors Program is making my joy of sailing a reality all over the Middle Atlantic region.
The smiling has been contagious out here in Chicago! We have launched our 24 RS Feva XL Boats into Lake Michigan at three locations: Columbia Sailing School, Jackson Park Yacht Club Foundation, and Sheridan Shores Sailing School.
The team of ten sailors had been practicing together for about a year at Treasure Island Sailing Center in the middle of the San Francisco Bay. They ranged from late-elementary to early-middle school age with a strong desire to improve their racing prowess. They started out last fall and sailed some Opti Green Fleet races in local regattas.
US Sailing has announced the names of three Siebel Coaches who have been hired to lead their respective regions and provide mentorship and instruction to participating sailors of the new Siebel Sailors Program. The goal of this ground-breaking program is to increase diversity and opportunity in the sport of sailing by providing resources and support to youth sailors at public access sailing centers across the country.
US Sailing’s Olympic Development Program (ODP) was created to define a pathway for young athletes looking to pursue the most elite levels of the sport. The program primarily supports sailors by providing them with training resources and opportunities, a core staple of which is coaching from some of the best in the industry. Read on to discover the lasting impact the coaches at the ODP West Clinic had on the next generation of Olympic hopefuls.
Treasure Island Sailing Center, DC Sail, and Columbia Sailing School have been selected as Primary Siebel Centers. In April, US Sailing announced a new community sailing program made possible by a major donation from the Thomas and Stacey Siebel Foundation. The purpose of this ground-breaking Siebel Sailors Program is to increase diversity and opportunity in the sport of sailing by providing resources and support to youth sailors at public access sailing centers across the country.
