On Sunday, August 4, 2019, racing will begin at the 2019 edition of the 470 World Championships. Over 180 athletes representing 30 nations will be competing on the waters of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 sailing venue. Four athletes will represent the United States in the Men’s class, and eight will sail under the American flag in the Women’s fleet.
On Saturday, August 10, Team USA’s sailing athletes clinched three more medals at the Pan American Games Lima 2019. Will Cyr (Bayview, Mich.) secured the Bronze Medal in the Open Formula Kite Class, Stephanie Roble and Maggie Shea earned the Silver in the Women’s 49erFX fleet, and Ernesto Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) and Hallie Schiffman (Sarasota, Fla.) won the Gold in the Mixed Snipe fleet. Combined with the four medals won by Team USA the previous day, the American team will be bringing home a total of seven medals.

After spending a week battling challenging conditions on the waters of Sakaiminato City, Japan, Charlotte Rose (Houston, Texas) has secured ninth place overall at the 2019 Laser Radial World Championships. Other strong American finishes include performances from two-time Olympian, Paige Railey (Clearwater, Fla.), and Trofeo Sofia Bronze Medalist, Erika Reineke (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.). Railey finished the event in 12th overall and Reineke finished 21st.

Maddie Hawkins (Edgewater, Md.) and Yumi Yoshiyasu (Houston, Texas) claimed gold medals in the Girls International 420 fleet, while Berta Puig (Miami, Fla.) and Bella Casaretto (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) were victorious in the Girls 29er fleet.
