US Sailing has hired Sally Barkow as Olympic Team Coach and Performance Manager. Barkow brings a strong background as an athlete to this position. She is a two-time Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year, an Olympian and a two-time Volvo Ocean Race competitor. She will be joining the US Sailing staff to coach U.S. Nacra 17 athletes and assist US Sailing Team coaches in managing the athlete training programs.
U.S. Kitefoil standout Daniela Moroz (Lafayette, Calif.) won the gold medal in the women’s kitefoil racing competition on Tuesday following four days of racing at the ANOC World Beach Games.
US Sailing Team Women’s RS:X athlete, Farrah Hall (Annapolis, Md.), recently participated at the RS:X equipment sea trials for the 2024 Olympics. During the trials, World Sailing conducted comprehensive on the water testing and onshore evaluation of five equipment options to replace the Men’s and Women’s RS:X classes at the 2024 Games. Yesterday, World Sailing released that the iFoil has been recommended as the replacement equipment. On Saturday, September 28, the 2019 RS:X World Championships concluded, delivering the next round of countries qualified for a berth at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Pedro Pascual (West Palm Beach, Fla.) secured the sixth available country spot in the Men’s class and Farrah Hall (Annapolis, Md.) secured the eighth in the Women’s class.
US Sailing and Malcolm Page, Chief of Olympic Sailing, announced that they have agreed to part ways. Page will be leaving US Sailing and returning to his home in Australia. He will be working with US Sailing Team staff and coaches on transition activities through the end of October, 2019.
US Sailing Team Nacra 17 athletes, Sarah Newberry and David Liebenberg recently joined Kilroy Realty at their annual Leadership Summit. Focused on team building, wellness and career development, the event brought together future leaders identified by Kilroy in a variety of disciplines. This year, the focus was on young champions, with the Nacra17 team invited to share their stories of working in competitive spaces and how those lessons can improve Kilroy’s best practices.
The 2020 Hempel World Cup Series Enoshima came to a quiet close on Sunday, September 1. Thanks to light winds, only two of the five Medal Races scheduled for the last day of sailing were completed. The Men’s and Women’s 470 classes enjoyed Medal Races while the Finn, Laser, and Laser Radial podiums were decided based on the cumulative standings of the first ten races.
Recently, at the Pan American Games, US Sailing’s President, Cory Sertl, joined Team USA at the sailing venue in Paracas, Peru. Cory is a decorated sailor in her own right and has even collected a few medals with one of our 2019 U.S. Pan Am Games Team athletes, Jody Starck.
