Bill Draheim (Royse City, Texas) and Rod Favela (Heath, Texas) rode a string of three victories in four races to win the 44th Championship of Champions regatta, a US Sailing Championship event. Hosted by the Atlanta Yacht Club and raced in the Y-Flyer, Draheim and Favela won with the low score of 22 points, good for 23-point victory.

The 51st U.S. Match Racing Championship, hosted by the Chicago Yacht Club, features ten talented teams comprised of both men and women skippers and crew, who will race for the coveted Prince of Wales Bowl over three days.

Two-time event champion Mike Ingham (Rochester, N.Y.) and International Women’s Keelboat Champion Megan Ploch (Pelham, N.Y.) headline the 44th Championship of Champions regatta. Best described as a melting pot for one-design class champions, the regatta begins Friday, Oct. 19, at the Atlanta Yacht Club (Acworth, Ga.) with 17 crews set to battle for the Jack Brown Trophy.
Cleveland’s revamped and re-energized waterfront was fully realized this weekend, and the sport of sailing, team racing to be specific, was the featured attraction. The winning team, Boss, composed of mostly Hobart and William Smith Colleges alumni sailors stole the show on Sunday to capture the elusive Hinman Trophy.
Michael Hanson (Wayzata, Minn.) and crew turned a 56-year drought on its ear this weekend when they won the 63rd U.S. Adult Sailing Championship. They didn’t just turn it on its ear, they ran it over, back and forth. Hanson, Tim Siemers (Maple Grove, Minn.) and Mark Swift (St. Paul, Minn.) dominated the regatta, posting the low score of 53 points to win the coveted Mallory Trophy.

This US Sailing National Championship is hosted by The Foundry, Cleveland’s Community Rowing and Sailing Center, featuring three days of racing from September 28-30. The 63rd U.S. Adult Sailing Championship begins Wednesday at the Wayzata Yacht Club with three-time winner Benz Faget (Metairie, La.) looking to tie the record for most victories in the legendary, US Sailing championship.
Nicole Breault ran the table at the 2018 U.S. Women’s Match Racing Championship, hosted by St. Francis Yacht Club, August 24-26. Without a single loss, Breault and her St. Francis Yacht Club crew of Molly Carapiet, Hannah Burroughs and Karen Loutzenheiser successfully defended their 2016 title.

On Friday, over 90 sailors wrapped up a big week on Lake Erie and thanks to the countless volunteers from the North Cape Yacht Club these sailors enjoyed a fun and competitive week on the water with their peers. Friday’s racing produced three new champions at the 2018 Chubb U.S. Junior Sailing Championships, a US Sailing National Championship event.
