2015 Paralympic Selection and Funding

Selection

1. 2.4m, SKUD, Sonar
1.1 The top US athlete or team that finishes at the 2015 ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami will qualify for the 2015 US Sailing Team.
1.2 The next ranked athlete team will be determined using discretionary selection, made by the Olympic Sailing Committee based on the following criteria:

  • Finishing position at 2014 IFDS Worlds
  • Finishing position  at 2015 SWC Miami
  • Consideration of quality of field at events listed above
  • Consideration of specific or extenuating circumstances including, but not limited to, illness or injury

Before being formally placed on the US Sailing Team, Athletes or teams that have qualified above must execute:
1.3 The US Sailing Team Athlete Agreement, and;
1.4  The Code of Conduct.

2 Athletes or teams that are placed on the US Sailing Team will have an option to execute the US Sailing Team Commercial Agreement Level 1 and Level 2.

3 Athletes or teams that have been placed on the US Sailing Team will be removed from the team if/when:
3.1 They resign from the US Sailing Team or retire from active Paralympic class competition.
3.2 They are found in violation of the Code of Conduct by the OSC.
3.3 The end of the 2016 Olympic Team Selection procedure is reached

2014 Funding Criteria – Direct Athlete Support (DAS) Details, Tasks, and Conditions

2014 Paralympic Funding

Athletes who qualify for the team must complete the following tasks in 2014 to receive their funding:
  1. Minimum 45 days of Training and Competition in Paralympic Equipment including the following:
    At least one SKUD only Training Camps led by USST Sperry Top-Sider staff – 4 days each
    Major Events*, Worlds, Europeans, Continental 10 days
    US Disabled Sailing Championship 4 days
    Additional Training Days ** 35 days
    USST Training Camp/PET Camp 3-6 days*2014 Major Events are ISAF Sailing World Cup Events; EuroSAF events; IFDS World Championship; Class World Championship; or Class Continental Championship such as North Americans or US Nationals; US Disabled Sailing Championship; Mobility Cup, or other approved event** Other Training may include participation in other class events or disabled sailing regattas like: Robie Pierce Regatta, NACC, Clagett Clinic and Regatta, America’s Regatta
  2. Attend US Sailing Team Training Camps as required.
  3. Attend US Sailing Team Annual meeting in Miami, FL at ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami.
  4. Participate in US Sailing Team Performance Enhancement Training (PET).
  5. Participating in a professional physical training and nutrition program. Complete medical screening and physical assessments as assigned with reporting/updates to team doctor and/or physiotherapist on regular basis.
  6. Fill out detailed schedule and periodization form to be approved by the High Performance Director and quarterly progress reports to Paralympic Coach.
  7. Execute and abide by the 2014 Athlete Agreement and Code of Conduct.
  8. Submit written documentation of task completion to High Performance Director by October 31, 2014.

Operation Gold Awards

Operation Gold Awards are designed to reward U.S. athletes for top-place finishes in a world championship competition, and are available to any U.S. athletes who compete in sports/disciplines/events on the program of the next Olympic or Paralympic Games.

Paralympic Sports

For Paralympic sports the Operation Gold qualifying competition is the Paralympic Games in a Paralympic year and the World Championships in non-Paralympic years. In the Paralympic year, multiple Operation Gold Awards will be paid to qualifying athletes. In non-Paralympic years, Operation Gold Awards are limited to one award per athlete in a program year.
