2024 Olympic Games

The 2024 Olympic Games will be held from July 26 - August 11, 2024. The sailing events will take place in Marseille, France from July 28 - August 8, 2024.

Following approval by US Sailing's International Selection Committee (ISC) and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), the Athlete Selection Procedures for the 2024 Olympic Games were published on July 12, 2022 and amended on February 17, 2023, June 14, 2023, and January 8, 2024.

US Sailing Team

US Sailing Team (Olympic Classes)

To qualify for the US Sailing Team, athletes/teams must meet the posted requirements while training and competing in a 2024 Olympic class. Athletes/teams will qualify for a specific Tier, with corresponding levels of US Sailing Team-provided support. USST Selection Procedures are reviewed annually and were updated on December 19, 2024.

2024 Men's and Women's Formula Kite European Championship

Following approval by US Sailing’s International Selection Committee (ISC), the selection procedures for the 2024 Formula Kite European Championships, to be held in Los Alcazares, Mar Menor, Spain from March 16-24, 2024, were published on December 30, 2023.

Following approval by US Sailing’s International Selection Committee (ISC), the selection procedures for the 2024 Formula Kite European Championships, to be held in Hyères, France from May 11-29, 2024, were published on February 23, 2024.

2024 Semaine Olympique Française (French Olympic Week)

For 2024, French Olympic Week will be split into two events: the "Last Chance Regatta", for countries who have not yet qualified for a spot in a specific class at the Paris 2024 Olympics, and the "Qualified Nations Regatta", for those countries who have qualified in a specific class for Paris 2024. The selection process is different for each regatta, as described below.

Following approval by US Sailing’s International Selection Committee (ISC), the selection procedures for the 2024 Semaine Olympique Française (French Olympic Week) - Qualified Nations Regatta, to be held in Hyères, France from April 20-27, 2024, were published on February 23, 2024.

ILCA Worlds

The majority of qualification spots for the ILCA Worlds are based on a qualification system published annually by the ILCA-North America Class, found HERE.

By agreement with the ILCA class, US Sailing is allocated one berth at each of the following annual World Championships:

  • ILCA 7 Men's Worlds
  • ILCA 6 Women's Worlds
  • ILCA 7 Men's Under-21 Worlds
  • ILCA 6 Women's Under-21 Worlds
The International Selection Committee will use its discretion based on performance at national and international events to select the athlete for these discretionary berths, including the following criteria:
  • Physical
    • Possesses appropriate fitness and strength as evidenced by performance in national and international regattas.
    • Has the appropriate physical size, including competitive height and weight.
  • Technical Proficiency
    • Handling and trim techniques (tacking, gybing, sail trim, starting line acceleration and balance), as well as race situations and tactics, as evidenced by performances in national and international regattas. Experience in a wide range of wind/wave conditions.

Youth Classes

Youth Worlds Team

Each year, US Sailing selects one eligible prospective athlete in each of the single‐handed classes and one team of two eligible prospective athletes for each of the double‐handed classes to represent their country at the Youth Sailing World Championships.

The 2024 Youth World Championship will be held in Lake Garda, Italy from July 13-20, 2024. The Selection Procedures were published on September 19, 2023 and amended on March 12, 2024.

Code of Conduct

In order to participate in a program or event of US Sailing and the US Olympic Sailing Program, including but not limited to membership on the US Sailing Team, participation in the Olympic Development Program, or competing at any international or domestic event for which US Sailing selects athletes to compete or participate, athletes pledge to uphold US Olympic Sailing Program Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct was published on June 28, 2022.
