BRISTOL, R.I. (February 7, 2024) – US Sailing has released the 2023 Reach Initiative Impact Report. Since its inception in 2012, Reach, US Sailing’s STEM Education Initiative, has had an immeasurable impact on youth across the country. Reach participants learn Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) concepts using sailing as an educational platform. As the Reach Initiative enters its 12th year US Sailing is excited to continue expanding the program impact.
2023 saw Reach Youth Engagement Grants continue to support programs that are just beginning to implement STEM or starting a new STEM program within their existing offerings.
This impact report focuses on the 2023 grant recipients. These 10 programs worked hard to engage their community and local partners on a new level through their STEM programming using the Reach curriculum and resources available online. Staff and volunteers from these organizations enrolled in the online Reach Educator Course to learn new techniques for offering hands-on lessons to their sailors while incorporating a variety of STEM concepts.
