The nation’s top adaptive sailors will gather at Coronado Yacht Club from Friday, September 26 through Sunday, September 28 for the 2025 U.S. Para Sailing Championship, US Sailing’s premier adaptive sailing event.
Racing will be contested in two divisions:
- Singlehanded – Hansa 303: Open to sailors with limited abilities.
- Doublehanded – Martin 16: Skipper with limited abilities and a safety companion with or without limited abilities.
Challenged Sailors San Diego provided all nine Martin 16s free of charge to support the U.S. Para Championship. Challenged Sailors San Diego is the award-winning program providing therapeutic, recreational and competitive adaptive sailing opportunities for people with disabilities to enhance their dignity, well-being, and independence – all for free.
Coronado Yacht Club (CYC) is proud to host the championship, building on more than a decade of commitment to adaptive sailing through its partnership with the KMAC Foundation. Founded in honor of CYC Junior Sailing alumnus Kyle McArthur, KMAC has provided accessible sailing opportunities since 2013, offering adaptive regattas, volunteer training, and events such as the Hansa Championship of the Americas. Thanks to the leadership of CYC member and KMAC advocate Jamie McArthur, and the efforts of event chair Scott Bucks, the club is ready to deliver an unforgettable national championship.
“This championship is not only a chance to showcase the skill and determination of these sailors, but also an opportunity for our youth program and members to learn, engage, and support one of the most important disciplines in our sport,” said Bucks.

CYC’s extensive adaptive sailing resources make it an ideal venue for the U.S. Para Sailing Championship. The club offers specialized lifting stations, a dedicated fleet of adaptive sailing boats, and an experienced volunteer base to ensure a safe, competitive, and welcoming environment. The event promises exciting competition on the water while fostering camaraderie, inclusion, and community spirit on land.
First established in 1986 as the U.S. Independence Cup, the event became US Sailing’s national championship for sailors with disabilities in 1989. Today, the U.S. Para Sailing Championship continues that legacy, celebrating inclusivity and excellence in sailing. US Sailing would like to thank US Sailing’s partners Sextant Wines and Goslings Rum for keeping the fun flowing at our championships!
