CLEVELAND, Ohio (October 11, 2014) – An exciting, full day of racing at the 2014 Championship of Champions, hosted by the Edgewater Yacht Club, has set the stage for a down-to-the-wire finale on Sunday. The Jack Brown Trophy is up for grabs after six more races were completed on Saturday.
Interesting scenarios are emerging that could significantly affect the scoring and standings. Through Saturday, the Thistle fleet has tallied nine races for the championship. Currently, a boat’s worst race score will be excluded. However, if three or more races are conducted Sunday, a boat’s two worst scores will be excluded. Weather conditions for Sunday are forecasted to be similar to Saturday. The scheduled warning signal for the first race Sunday is 9:30 am EDT. No warning signal will be made after 12:00 pm.
Saturday’s dual between leader Jack Parkin (Riverside, Conn.) and Mike Ingham (Rochester, N.Y.) figures to be a showdown for the title on Sunday. Parkin and his crew Florian Eenkema van Dijk (Darien, Conn.) are members of US Sailing’s 2014 ISAF Youth World Championship Team as an International 420 team. Jack’s father, Barry Parkin (Riverside, Conn.), is the third crewmate. Ingham, a J/24 champion, has a history of success at the Championship of Champions. He won the event 2005 and has placed second on multiple occasions. Mike’s wife, Delia Ingham (Rochester, N.Y.), and Dan Fien (Webster, N.Y.) are working hard this week as crew.
Top 5 – Complete Standings
1. Jack Parkin [I-420], 1-3-5-5-3-1-[10]-5-1- ; 24T
2. Mike Ingham [J/24], 6-[21/RET]-3-1-1-3-2-6-2- ; 24T
3. Brent Barbehenn [Jet 14], 8-4-1-10-2-6-[13]-1-10- ; 42
