Cory Sertl Elected President of US Sailing’s Board of Directors

The US Sailing Nominating Committee named new members of the National Governing Body’s Board of Directors who were officially elected on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at US Sailing’s Annual Meeting in San Francisco, hosted by the St. Francis Yacht Club. Cory Sertl (Rochester, N.Y.) was elected as the next President of US Sailing. Rich Jepsen (Alameda, Calif.) was elected Vice President.

Potts, Yankee Creole Race Team Wins U.S. Match Racing Championship

Pearson Potts (Newport, R.I.) won the Prince of Wales Bowl at the 2018 U.S. Match Racing Championship after three days of intense racing this weekend in Chicago. Potts and his all-american crew won the overall Championship this year after claiming the title of National Champions in 2017.

Draheim, Favela Capture Championship of Champions

Bill Draheim (Royse City, Texas) and Rod Favela (Heath, Texas) rode a string of three victories in four races to win the 44th Championship of Champions regatta, a US Sailing Championship event. Hosted by the Atlanta Yacht Club and raced in the Y-Flyer, Draheim and Favela won with the low score of 22 points, good for 23-point victory.

Sailing’s version of “one-on-one” competition will seize the spotlight this week as the energy and passion of match racing takes center stage in Chicago. The 51st U.S. Match Racing Championship, hosted by the Chicago Yacht Club, features ten talented teams comprised of both men and women skippers and crew, who will race for the coveted Prince of Wales Bowl over three days.

Mike Ingham Looks to Capture Third Title at Championship of Champions

Two-time event champion Mike Ingham (Rochester, N.Y.) and International Women’s Keelboat Champion Megan Ploch (Pelham, N.Y.) headline the 44th Championship of Champions regatta. Best described as a melting pot for one-design class champions, the regatta begins Friday, Oct. 19, at the Atlanta Yacht Club (Acworth, Ga.) with 17 crews set to battle for the Jack Brown Trophy.

Sailing Foundation of New York and New York Yacht Club Renew Support for US Sailing Team

The Sailing Foundation of New York raised over $300,000 for the US Sailing Team at the 2018 Golden Spinnaker Benefit Dinner, held on Friday, Sept. 28 at the iconic New York Yacht Club Harbour Court in Newport, RI. The special evening highlighted the incredible support of the sailing community to come together and bolster the hard working efforts of these athletes aspiring to compete at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

US Sailing Education Zone at Extreme Sailing Series San Diego

The Extreme Sailing Series™ will return to San Diego for the second consecutive year on October 18-21 and the US Sailing Education Zone will be a featured attraction for attendees again. 2018 U.S. Youth Olympic Sailing Team Ready for Buenos Aires 2018

The U.S. Youth Olympic Sailing Team has touched-down in Argentina for the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018 from October 6-18, 2018. Held every four years, 2018 will mark the third edition of the Summer Youth Olympic Games, which are expected to include nearly 4,000 athletes from over 200 nations. The sailing events will welcome over 100 athletes aged 15-18 from 44 countries. Five sailing events will take place at Club Náutico San Isidro in the Argentine capital.

Hinman Trophy Decided on Final Match in Cleveland

Cleveland’s revamped and re-energized waterfront was fully realized this weekend, and the sport of sailing, team racing to be specific, was the featured attraction. The winning team, Boss, composed of mostly Hobart and William Smith Colleges alumni sailors stole the show on Sunday to capture the elusive Hinman Trophy.

Hanson, ILYA Crew Dominate U.S. Adult Sailing Championship

Michael Hanson (Wayzata, Minn.) and crew turned a 56-year drought on its ear this weekend when they won the 63rd U.S. Adult Sailing Championship. They didn’t just turn it on its ear, they ran it over, back and forth. Hanson, Tim Siemers (Maple Grove, Minn.) and Mark Swift (St. Paul, Minn.) dominated the regatta, posting the low score of 53 points to win the coveted Mallory Trophy.
