Potts, Yankee Creole Race Team Wins U.S. Match Racing Championship
Pearson Potts (Newport, R.I.) won the Prince of Wales Bowl at the 2018 U.S. Match Racing Championship after three days of intense racing this weekend in Chicago. Potts and his all-american crew won the overall Championship this year after claiming the title of National Champions in 2017.

Sailing’s version of “one-on-one” competition will seize the spotlight this week as the energy and passion of match racing takes center stage in Chicago. The 51st U.S. Match Racing Championship, hosted by the Chicago Yacht Club, features ten talented teams comprised of both men and women skippers and crew, who will race for the coveted Prince of Wales Bowl over three days.

Due to a change in dates for the Nations Cup Grand Final from October, 2018 to April, 2019, US Sailing can nominate the 2018 U.S. Women’s National Champion skipper. The highest finishing team composed of all U.S. citizens or resident aliens at the 2018 U.S. Women’s Match Racing Championship, being held August 23-26, 2018 at the St. Francis Yacht Club, will become the 2018 U.S. National Champions.

Ten teams of four, each with at least one female crew, competed at this year’s 2018 U.S. Youth Match Racing Championship for the Rose Cup. Hosted by Oakcliff Sailing and Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club, the competitors finished an exciting Round Robin in the late Saturday evening, the second day of racing. The hot and humid conditions continued Sunday with no breeze and no wind. The race committee could not start any races past 1:00 pm ET, so they referred to the results of the previous two days to score the regatta.
