Winners were decided at the 2022 U.S. Sailing Youth Championship today after three days of champagne sailing on the Pacific. Over 100 sailors competed across four classes for top honors at US Sailing’s premier youth regatta, open to sailors 19 and younger. 29er
Brothers prevailed this weekend in the 29er fleet, with the top three spots belonging to sibling teams. Tyler and Andrew Lamm took first over US Youth Worlds representatives Ian and Noah Nyenhuis for the Manton D. Scott Trophy. Miles and Jake Julien came in third with 57 points after 12 races.
This year’s fleet of 29ers was one of the largest and most competitive in Youth Champs history with seven different teams taking at least one race win in the regatta.

Competition was tight in the i420 fleet. Robert Ulmer and Henry Allgeier finished in first, three points in front of second place finishers Sophia Devling and Carmen Berg. Kyra Phelan and Brooke Schmelz, who finished first at last weekend’s US Open Sailing Series, took third.
ILCA 6
US Youth Worlds Women’s ILCA 6 representative Katherine Doble had a banner weekend in the ILCA 6, securing the win with 12 points after eight races, winning the Robert and Anne Connor Trophy. Lauderdale Yacht Club teammate Robby Meek came in second, while US Youth Worlds representative in the Men’s ILCA 6 Peter Barnard came in third. Doble is the second ever female to win the Conner Trophy in the ILCA 6, following Erika Reineke in 2011.
ILCA 7
Lauderdale Yacht Club sailors claimed the podium in the ILCA 7. Benjamin Smith took first to win the Robert L. Johnstone II Trophy. Teammate Ben Sheppard took second, while Jack Baldwin took third.
The Dave M. Perry Sportsmanship award recipient was also chosen in each class. Sailors were nominated by their fellow competitors, then chosen by the event coaches. Winners displayed acts of sportsmanship, kindness, and the Corinthian spirit throughout the event. Each winner was presented with a Gill Marine bag. Congratulations to:
