14 Teams Face Off for U.S. Team Racing Championship at Larchmont

Eighty-four of the country’s top team racers will descend on Larchmont Yacht Club for the 2025 U.S. Team Racing Championship for the George R. Hinman Trophy. This year’s roster is a who’s-who of college and post-college talent, featuring returning champions, ICSA Hall of Famers, College Team Race Nationals winners, and champions from other prestigious regattas.

More than one-fourth of the competitors are ICSA All Americans, including five ICSA College Sailor of the Year winners who will be vying for the George R. Hinman Trophy: Justin Callahan (2025), Lachlain McGranahan (2024), Shawn Harvey (2022), Jack Egan (2023), Jack Parkin (2020), Stefano Peschiera (2018), and Graham Landy (2014). Standout competitors also include Vanessa Lahrkamp, two-time Quantum Women’s Sailor of the Year, Sophia Reineke, 2022 Quantum Women’s Sailor of the Year, and Anisha Arcot (2023) and Marbella Marlo (2024), both recognized as Crew of the Year.

Racing will take place September 26-28 right off Larchmont Yacht Club’s main pier, allowing for great spectator viewing. Find the full list of competitors here.

Returning champions Los Huevos—Justin Callahan, Marbella Marlo, Mitchell Callahan, Sara Schumann, Lachlain McGranahan, and Libby Redmond—are seeking back-to-back Hinman titles. The team brings extensive experience on the water outside of the Hinman as well, having captured the 2024 and 2025 ICSA Open Team Race Championships. They’ll be challenged by 2022 champions Rock City Cruising Club (who competed as Blueberry Faygo), aiming for redemption after finishing ninth in 2023 and second in 2024.

Vanessa Lahrkamp, winner of the 2025 ICSA Women’s Team Racing Championship and two-time Quantum Women’s Sailor of the Year, is making her first bid for the Hinman Trophy, hoping to carry the momentum from the women’s circuit to the national stage.

“Team racing has been, and continues to be, one of the major forces at Larchmont Yacht Club,” said Event Chair Ed Padin. “With our fleets of z420s, Sonars, and Ideal 18s, we are able to participate in and host team racing events year after year. Team racing has also been a means by which we attract and maintain younger members who are the future of our 144-year-old Club. Our members are pulling out all the stops to make the 2025 USTRC one of the best ever and we welcome sailors and guests to come to Larchmont Yacht Club to enjoy the stadium viewing of this year’s Hinman racing right off our front lawn.”

First held in 1981, the U.S. Team Racing Championship remains one of the largest and most anticipated annual sailing competitions in the country. The George R. Hinman Trophy was donated to honor Hinman’s decades of service and contributions to yachting. An accomplished sailor, Hinman played a leading role in one-design sailing and served in various capacities with the America’s Cup, including helmsman, syndicate manager, and chairman of the America’s Cup Selection Committee.
