Aarhus Test Event – US Selection Procedures

Athlete Eligibility

1. Citizenship

Unless otherwise approved by the IOC or World Sailing Board, all prospective athletes shall be a national of the USA and present proof of nationality (passport) or approved exception. The athlete’s passport shall not expire for six months after the conclusion of the 2017 Aarhus Test Event.

2. World Sailing Sailor

All prospective athletes shall be registered as a ‘World Sailing Sailor’ on the World Sailing website.

3. Gender

Prospective athletes must meet the gender requirement of the respective event.

Qualification Procedures

Each MNA is entitled to one Priority Entry in each event.

  1. This entry will be awarded to the 2017 USST athlete/team that has qualified for DAS funding in their respective class.
    1. In doublehanded classes, if only one athlete on a 2017 USST team qualified for DAS funding, priority will be given to a team in which both athletes qualified for DAS funding.
    2. If multiple 2017 USST athletes/teams in a class qualified for DAS funding, the entry will be awarded to the athlete/team with higher “A” level funding.
    3. If multiple 2017 USST athletes/teams receive equal levels of DAS funding, the entry will be awarded to the 2017 USST athlete/team with the highest finish at the 2017 Sailing World Cup Miami.
  2. If no 2017 USST athletes/teams in a class receive DAS funding, the entry will be awarded to the 2017 USST athlete/team in that class.
    1. If multiple 2017 USST athletes/teams in a class do not receive DAS funding, the entry will be awarded to the 2017 USST athlete/team with the highest finish at the 2017 Sailing World Cup Miami.
  3. If there are no 2017 USST athletes/teams in a class, the OSC will select the US representative with sailing resume based on the following criteria:
    1. Actively campaigning in that Olympic class
    2. Demonstrated ability in that class to win a medal at the 2020 Olympic Games
    3. Regatta results
  4. If USA is awarded any additional entries in any class, the above procedures will be used until all entries granted to USA are filled.
