Your support “Reaches” local community sailing centers!

Ten sailing centers receive grants to implement US Sailing’s Reach Initiative, thanks to you!

Thanks to support from Rolex and US Sailing donors like you, ten sailing centers have been awarded grants to grow youth sailing through STEM and environmental education with US Sailing’s Reach Initiative!

Each center now has funds and resources to further their Reach programming and increase Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) opportunities for students in their community.

Using sailing as a teaching platform, Reach inspires youth to embrace education, establish a love of learning, and explore productive STEM-based careers. It provides a one-of-a-kind, authentic learning experience where students can apply classroom lessons in a cooperative work environment.

Khari Parrish is the Operations Director at Community Sailing New Orleans (CSNO), who is one of this year’s grant recipients. CSNO incorporates US Sailing’s Reach curriculum into their Design+Build+Sail program as well as STEM-based field trips and group outings.

“Without opportunities to apply the knowledge and lessons taught in the classroom students often grow bored and uninterested, eventually lamenting school for its lack of stimulation. US Sailing’s Reach initiative and curriculum provides students with interesting and exciting real-world applications of concepts introduced in the classroom.”

Most youth participants in CSNO’s programs have little or no sailing experience before attending, but many continue to participate consistently and join other programs after participating in a course with Reach curriculum.

The following centers were selected for 2025 US Sailing Reach Youth Engagement grants.

Bluegrass Sailing Club (Gilbertsville, KY)
Community Boating Center, Inc. (New Bedford, MA)
Community Sailing New Orleans (New Orleans, LA)
Edison Sailing Center (Fort Myers, FL)
Havre de Grace Youth Sailing Program (Havre de Grace, MD)
Jolly Madison Sailing Club (Grand Rapids, MI)
Milwaukee Community Sailing Center (Milwaukee, WI)
Sheridan Shore Sailing School (Wilmette, IL)
The Cleveland Foundry (Cleveland, OH)
Youth Sailing Virginia (Hampton, VA)

Congratulations to all 2025 recipients and many thanks to US Sailing donors for making this program possible!
