Wings Over the Bay: U.S. Wingfoil Championship Returns to St. Francis Yacht Club

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (June 19, 2025) – This weekend, the iconic waters beneath the Golden Gate Bridge will come alive with the high-speed, high-stakes action of the 2025 U.S. Wingfoil Championship. Hosted once again by the prestigious St. Francis Yacht Club, the event, presented by F4 Foils, returns to San Francisco Bay from June 20–22, following a groundbreaking inaugural championship in 2024 that drew more than 40 athletes ranging in age from 13 to over 50.

This year’s format continues the momentum with a dynamic mix of slalom and short-course buoy racing, a long-distance “Bay Challenge” from Crissy Field to Berkeley Pier, and a pre-Championship freestyle showcase on Thursday, June 19. The open-class structure invites competitors to bring their own gear while racing for overall and division titles, including Female, Under-19, Masters (35+), and Grandmasters (50+) for both men and women.

Defending champion Johnny Heineken, winner of the 2024 championship after over a dozen hard-fought races, returns to home waters. Last year’s event saw him outpace a stacked fleet that included JP Lattanzi, Jacob Rosenberg, and Kai Mirel in classic Bay conditions, with winds ranging from 10 to 34 knots. Many competitors, including Heineken’s stacked competition from last year, are back, looking for redemption. With strong afternoon sea breezes forecasted once again this weekend, the 2025 championship promises even tighter competition and breathtaking action against San Francisco’s legendary skyline.

Beyond the racecourse, the U.S. Wingfoil Championship offers an atmosphere of camaraderie and celebration. Daily debriefs, tech talks, dockside socials, and a GWA-style freestyle contest offer opportunities for learning, networking, and elevating the sport at every level. Winners will not only walk away with national titles but may also earn wildcard invitations to international events on the GWA Wingfoil World Tour.

With top athletes returning to defend their titles, new talent entering the scene, and the Bay’s signature breeze on tap, the 2025 U.S. Wingfoil Championship is poised to deliver fast, tactical, and high-flying action all weekend long. Whether you’re racing, spectating from Crissy Field, or following the fleet from afar, this year’s “Summer Wingding” is more than a regatta, it ‘s a celebration of where the sport is headed.
