PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (April 13, 2017) – US Sailing, the National Governing Body of the sport, and Gowrie Group and Chubb Insurance have announced a multi-year sponsorship extension. Gowrie Group will serve as the Official Insurance Agency of US Sailing and the US Sailing Team. Chubb will be the Official Insurance Carrier of US Sailing and the US Sailing Team.

Through this partnership, Gowrie Group will deliver high quality insurance programs, risk management, and safety solutions to US Sailing members through the Burgee Insurance Program for sailing organizations, the One-Design Insurance Program for one-design sailboats under 30 feet, and the Crew Medical Health Insurance Program for US Sailing members.

US Sailing CEO Jack Gierhart said, “For years, US Sailing has truly valued working with Gowrie Group and Chubb to offer the sailing community excellent insurance programs and safety resources that meet its specific needs. We are extremely pleased to extend this partnership and continue providing US Sailing members with access to these valuable insurance programs and valuable resources. We are also grateful for their ongoing support of US Sailing and their commitment to fostering a safe environment for sailors on and off the water.”

Gowrie Group CEO Carter Gowrie said, “We are very proud of our long-term relationship with US Sailing. Many of us here at Gowrie are active sailors and racers, so this partnership is very meaningful to us. We are committed to giving back to the sport of sailing through supporting US Sailing, the US Sailing Team, and US Sailing members.”

Gowrie Group President Ed Gumbrecht said, “The new agreement extends and strengthens a fifteen year history of partnership between US Sailing, Gowrie and Chubb.”

Gowrie Group Vice President of Marketing Whitney Peterson said, “As US Sailing’s insurance partner, we are proud to provide sailors, yacht clubs, and community sailing programs the insurance solutions and safety resources they need and value.”

Gowrie Group, the nation’s leading and largest independent marine insurance agency, has been offering custom marine insurance programs to US Sailing members for nearly twenty-five years as part of this long standing relationship. These insurance solutions – and discounts that Gowrie Group offers to US Sailing members on their programs – are some of the most valuable benefits that US Sailing extends to its membership base. Gowrie Group’s primary offerings for US Sailing members include:

  • The Burgee Program: Specialized insurance solution for yacht clubs, community sailing programs, and sailing organizations. More than 1,000 sailing organizations nationwide are part of the program. Underwritten by Chubb and managed by Gowrie Group.
  • One-Design Insurance Program: Insurance tailored to meet the needs of one-design sailors in over 170 classes of boats under 30 feet.
  • Crew Medical and Health Insurance: Worldwide health insurance coverage for qualified US Sailing members that are professional sailors, coaches, instructors, US Sailing Team athletes, collegiate sailing athletes, paid crew/captains, and international cruisers.

For years, Chubb Insurance has played a central role in supporting US Sailing National Championship events. Chubb will continue their position as title sponsor for the successful Chubb U.S. Junior Sailing Championships. Hundreds of young sailors participate in this championship series every summer.

Gowrie Group will continue to have a strong presence at many of US Sailing’s most significant events and forums. Gowrie was a top-tier sponsor and contributor at US Sailing’s National Sailing Programs Symposium (NSPS) last February, US Sailing’s Regional Symposiums held around the country in 2017 and 2018, and the Sailing Leadership Forum in 2018.
