Since its establishment in 2012, the US Sailing Reach Program has opened doors for students across the nation to engage with science, technology, engineering, math (STEM), and environmental studies—all through the power of sailing. Far beyond the traditional goals of building skill and knowledge on the water, US Sailing’s Reach Program is about fostering a generation of young people who are both knowledgeable in STEM and deeply committed to environmental responsibility. With an emphasis on accessibility and growth, the Reach Program has become an invaluable resource for community sailing centers across the United States.

As the holiday season brings thoughts of giving, some sailors are proving that generosity and sportsmanship extend well beyond the racecourse. This year, two teams who received the Corinthian Spirit Award at New York Yacht Club chose to spread cheer by donating their prize—$3,000 worth of Helly Hansen gear—to community sailing programs that help make the sport more accessible.
