US Sailing requires all participants wear a U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) approved personal floatation device (PFD) at US Sailing Championships, clinics, and sailing events for which US Sailing is the Organizing Authority.
The US Coast Guard has updated and revised its life jacket requirements, introducing new standards and guidelines to help improve safety for all boaters. These changes aim to make it easier for sailors to choose the right life jacket and ensure they’re properly equipped while on the water.
All life jackets worn at US Sailing events must display a USCG approved label. Please note that not all ISO Level 50 life jackets meet USCG Level 50 requirements; sailors should always verify USCG approval by checking the label before purchasing or wearing a PFD.
