NOTIFICATION: US Sailing Makes Updates to Safety Equipment Requirements
US Sailing recently announced updates to the Safety at Sea certificate requirements and expiration dates in response to the pandemic’s impact on hosting in-person courses in 2021. US Sailing specifically addresses those who possess a five-year Safety at Sea certificate which expires in 2020 or 2021, or those who seek a new certificate this year. The Safety Equipment Requirements (SER) had stated that all Safety at Sea certificates expire after five years. To avoid this expiration date conflict, the SER stated in 4.3.1 and 4.3.2. was updated to require a ‘valid’ Safety at Sea certificate and will not require the five-year term.
