The 2026 U.S. Wingfoil Championships concluded on Sunday after three days of world-class racing on San Francisco Bay, with competitors treated to another spectacular day of sunshine and steady 15–20 knot winds – ideal conditions for a thrilling championship finale.
Despite forecasts calling for lighter breeze, San Francisco once again delivered, providing championship-caliber conditions for fast, technical, and closely contested racing. The Gold Fleet completed four races, while the Silver Fleet sailed three before the event transitioned into the medal series, featuring quarterfinals, semifinals, and a winner-takes-all final.
The championship battle remained tight throughout the day, highlighted by an exciting duel between Sean Herbert and Kai Mirel. Both riders demonstrated exceptional speed, tactical precision, and consistency, raising the level of competition and showcasing the continued evolution of wingfoil racing in the United States.
The depth of talent on display throughout the regatta underscored the bright future of the sport, with a young and highly skilled field competing with remarkable confidence and professionalism.
Sean Herbert earned the overall championship victory following an outstanding performance throughout the event, while Kai Mirel secured the title of 2026 U.S. National Champion. The championship also recognized the impressive performances of the top five finishers, who capped off the week with a fiercely competitive medal series.
The 2026 U.S. Wingfoil Championships wrapped up after three memorable days of sunshine, strong winds, and high-speed racing on one of the world’s premier sailing venues, providing an exciting conclusion to another successful national championship.
