REPECHAGE ROUND
Unfortunately, the midday races saw the wind die down a bit but still trudging along, Romain Screve and Pere Puig secured first and bi-coastal teammates Bram Brakman and Rhodes Garner took second in the three-team Heat 8. Picking up the pace in the third and final round of the day, Martha’s Vineyard-based Rasmus Sayre and Miami, Florida’s Shane Riera took first, followed by local Newport hero and sailing legacy Brandon Read (nephew of Nick Read) with partner Gordon Gurnell.
“It was unfortunate that conditions were not ideal and we were not able to utilize the full force of the foils,” said Head Coach and Extreme Sailing Champion Roman Hagara. “That is the reality of sail racing but we look forward to tomorrow.”
