Fresh off a week of training in Long Beach for the Youth Worlds Team and training partners, the San Diego West Marine US Open kicks off a slew of regattas on the youth athletes’ schedules. Immediately following the US Open that also doubles as the 29er class National Championship this weekend, athletes roll into the US Youth Championships in San Diego, the 29er World Championship in Barcelona, and the coveted Youth World Championships in The Netherlands.

“The Youth Worlds training camp last week was great,” said Women’s ILCA 6 Youth Worlds representative, Katharine Doble. “We worked with a variety of coaches and got to train alongside the whole group that will be representing the USA this summer. It was great to be all together working toward the same goal in our respective classes.”

From Phil Muller, 2022 Youth Worlds Team Leader & Under-19 Program Head Coach under ODP:

“We did good work in Long Beach. Our mission in ODP is ‘constant improvement,’ and this was our best camp yet. Five days of focused training, supported by the best coaches in youth sailing, to prepare the Youth Worlds team for competition in The Hague in a few weeks.

I read a quote this week: ‘The Olympics don’t happen every four years, it happens every day’ and those words inspired our effort in Long Beach and moving forward.

The San Diego US Open is also the 29er class National Championships, so the competitors here have a fire in their belly to win a national title in preparation for Worlds later this summer.”
