A Statement from US Sailing
The US Sailing family is deeply saddened to learn of the sudden and tragic passing of 17-year-old Joseph Chomyn.
Joey died in a powerboating accident on Saturday near Limehouse Bridge on the Stono River in Johns Island, South Carolina.
US Sailing got to know Joey over the years as a competitor at US Sailing National Championship events, including last week’s U.S. Junior Sailing Championships hosted by the North Cape Yacht Club in La Salle, Michigan.
Not only was he an outstanding young sailor, but we knew Joey for his positive energy, enthusiasm, and always a willingness to help others.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Chomyn family. Joey will be missed dearly.
