Event Recap: 2024 U.S. Team Racing Championship for the George R. Hinman Trophy

The 2024 U.S. Team Racing Championship, hosted by the Severn Sailing Association (SSA) in Annapolis, Maryland, was a thrilling display of tactical skill, teamwork, and competitive spirit. This prestigious event brought together top sailors from across the nation, all vying for the coveted George R. Hinman Trophy.

24 teams of 6 sailors each convened in Annapolis to test their talents against the best team racers in the nation.

Over the course of the regatta, teams competed in a Swiss League format with 220 races on the first two days. Light to moderate breeze from the Southeast greeted competitors on the first two days and on the final day, a very light Westerly prevailed, cutting down on the number of races able to be sailed on the ultimate day.

The competition was fierce, with sailors navigating a variation of conditions, making every race a true test of strategy and coordination.

In the end, Los Huevos emerged victorious for the second year in a row, showcasing exceptional boat handling, quick decision-making, and seamless communication.

“Super grateful for the way the regatta ended up,” said Mitchell Callahan. “Grateful to the other five people on this team and to our parents and our many coaches along the way.”

Off the water, competitors enjoyed socializing at beautiful Severn Sailing Association, while enjoying complimentary Black Seal Rum and Ginger Beer from Goslings, including the brand-new peach flavor, to make the famous Dark ‘n Stormy. Sailors were gifted custom event hats from Goslings, as well as event-branded dry bags from Gill.
