Champion Sailor and US Sailing Supporter Dayton Carr Passes Away

Dayton Thomas Carr (New York, N.Y.) passed away peacefully in his home in New York City on April 7, 2020. He was 78 years old. Dayton was a great friend to the sailing community and was an incredible supporter of US Sailing and the U.S. Olympic Sailing Program over the years. He was also an accomplished competitive racer in a variety of sailboats throughout his sailing career. He will be remembered and missed by all who were fortunate to know him.

“Dayton was a long-time and avid member of US Sailing and supporter of all things sailing,” said Jack Gierhart, CEO of US Sailing. “His smile, humor, energy and passion were contagious, and his creativity and generosity have left a very positive mark on the sport. He will be greatly missed by our community, but we are left with wonderful memories of the time he spent with us.”

The National Sailing Hall of Fame will hold a memorial event in Newport, R.I. on a future date.
