US athletes had a strong showing at the prestigious Semaine Olympique Française (French Olympic Week) with a series of standout performances, topped by Charlotte Rose’s win over the ILCA 6 fleet. Rose overcame a slow start to the event – ending the qualifying series in 14th place – to triumph with a 2-6 in the medal series.
The U.S. contingent made an immediate impact in the highly competitive men’s 49er skiff class. American duo Andrew Molleurs and Trevor Bornarth surged to the top of the overall standings after posting consistent finishes in the first half of the week. The pair finished in fifth overall.
Fellow Americans Nevin Snow and Ian MacDiarmid also delivered a strong performance, reinforcing the United States’ depth in the fleet. They finished just off the podium in fourth after a strong second half of the event.
“This week delivered an exceptional range of conditions for the athletes — from light air to heavy breeze and challenging sea states,” shared Director of Olympic Sailing Molly Vandemoer. “It’s been incredibly encouraging to see such strong performances from the U.S. athletes, highlighted by a tightly contested push for the top five in the 49er fleet, Daniel’s race win in the ILCA 7 fleet, and Charlotte’s decisive finish on the final day.”
Held annually in Hyères, France, the regatta is one of the premier events on the international sailing calendar, drawing more than 700 athletes from nearly 60 nations to compete across Olympic disciplines.
