Former NAYRU Executive Director Henry H. Anderson, Jr. Passes Away at 98

BRISTOL, R.I. (May 11, 2020) – The sailing community lost a leader and a pioneer when Henry H. Anderson, Jr. passed away at the age of 98 on Monday, May 11, 2020.

Anderson worked as one of the first Executive Directors of the North American Yacht Racing Union (NAYRU, now US Sailing) and later served as a member of US Sailing’s Appeals Committee for 25 years. He was also the co-author of The Centennial History of the United States Sailing Association.

Anderson was awarded the Nathanael G. Herreshoff Trophy in 1979 by US Sailing for his outstanding contribution to sailing in the United States. The award is the most prestigious service recognition given by US Sailing.
