2016 U.S. Youth Match Racing Championship – Day 2 Recap

The fleet of Elliott 6m sailboats enjoyed a spectacular day of racing on Lake Michigan on day two of the 2016 U.S. Youth Match Racing Championship for the Rose Cup, hosted by Sail Sheboygan and the Sheboygan Yacht Club. After a relatively slow start to the championship in light breeze with multiple postponements on Friday, these young match racers were excited to get in a full day of competition.

The fleet finished the Round Robin stage Saturday morning, completed the Quarterfinals and consolation races, and started the Semifinals in the afternoon.

Results & Coverage – Results & Standings

  • Semifinals: #1 Sean Cornell leads #4 Jack Parkin, 2-0; #3 Dane Byerly and #2 Romain Screve are tied, 1-1.
  • Quarterfinals: #1 Cornell and #2 Screve each swept their matches, 3-0; #3 Byerly and #4 Parkin advanced on their final race of the series to win their matches, 3-2. First to three points advances to Finals.
  • Round Robin: Cornell finished the stage as the #1 seed with eight points in nine races; Screve was also 8-1 in the stage, with his lone loss coming to Cornell; the top eight teams advanced to the Quarterfinals.
  • The Semifinals will resume Saturday morning and the Finals will follow. The first signal is scheduled for 9:30am CDT.
