Portsmouth, R.I. – US Sailing’s Olympic Development Program (ODP) has released the 2016 ODP event schedule, which includes the training camps, clinics and regattas that will form the foundation of the program in the coming year. ODP coaches will manage dozens of high-level training camps across the country, and assist with other events run by partner organizations. In addition, ODP coaches will be present at prominent regattas and clinics in states such as Florida, Texas, California, Rhode Island, Oregon, New York, and Connecticut. ODP Travel Teams will also help American sailors perform at major international championships such as the Women’s Laser Radial Worlds, the Laser Radial Youth Worlds, the 29er Worlds, and the ISAF Youth Worlds. The core classes utilized by the ODP in 2016 will be the Laser Radial, 29er and I420.
“Our main objective in 2015 was to get the ODP up and running, and 2016 will see us continue to strengthen this important new program,” said Leandro Spina (Miami, Fla.), US Sailing’s Youth Development Director. “We want to help guide America’s next generation of high-performance sailors. We will run quality events at many different locations around the US and overseas, and continue to coordinate with the diverse and dedicated network of youth sailing programs, supporters and stakeholders that have been so crucial to this country for a long time. We also look forward to continuing to build strong relationships with sailors and their families.”

US Sailing’s Olympic Development Program (ODP) was launched in January 2015 to lead the progression of the most promising youth sailing talent in the US. Guided by the US Olympic Sailing Committee’s Project Pipeline strategic initiative, the ODP fosters an integrated approach to training in the core development and Olympic classes, and is part of a system to provide the United States with a steady stream of well-prepared sailors. Some of these athletes will go on to represent Team USA at The Olympic Games, and provide the national team with consistent success. The fundamental premise of the ODP is to focus on the critical transition from youth sailing to high performance racing in Olympic classes. The ODP is funded through generous donations by individuals and organizations. The lead gift as well as a matching grant has been provided by the AmericaOne Foundation, and the US Olympic Sailing Program is actively seeking supporters to meet this generous match.
