About IQ Foil

IQ Foil is the Olympic Windsurfing Class. Since its selection in 2020 as the equipment for the 2024 Paris Olympics the class has exploded in popularity around the world. The gear is very high performance and but one design rules keep costs down. For this reason racing windsurfers of all skill levels have embraced the class. The kit includes one sail and foil. Women sail a 8 meter sail(reduced to 7.3 in January 2025) and Men sail a 9.0 meter (reduced to 8.0 in January 2025). The foil is all carbon aside from an aluminum fuselage. The men and women both ride a 90cm wide front wing. Racing takes place in one of three formats. Course racing, sprint slalom, and marathon. Course racing is traditional upwind downwind racing and is done when the wind is above 12 knots. Sprint slalom racing is held in 6 to15 knots and consists of a reach start and a downwind course with several gybe marks. A Marathon race is a double points distance race. Extreme measures have been taken to keep the regatta exciting through the last race. Regattas normally consist of a qualifying series that leads to a final series. The final series concludes with a 3 person race that solely determines the final outcome.
