Celestial Navigation Instructor certification is for those who have mastered the techniques of open ocean position fixing using sextant and timepiece. You have a knowledge of sight reduction methodology to enable you to reduce a sextant sight to a plotted line of position using any celestial body found in the Nautical Almanac.
If you have U.S. Coast Guard Celestial Navigation endorsement on your U.S. Coast Guard license all you need to do is apply. If you don’t have an endorsement, you will be given the Celestial Navigation exam and need to pass it with 90% or better. You must be a current Basic Keelboat Instructor to obtain this certification.
