The David Storrs Match Racing Fund exists to support and foster the discipline of Match Racing. The goal is simple – to increase participation in Match Racing across the USA.
The Storrs Fund supports two specific strategies to accomplish the above:
- US Sailing Match Racing Clinics
Learning Match Racing requires instruction from an expert. While the fundamentals of sailing remain, match racing uses a slightly different set of rules and racing format. The US Sailing match racing committee facilitates clinics across the country to teach sailors at all skill levels how to match race. For the most dedicated and talented sailors, these clinics have helped sailors climb to the top of the podium in international match racing events.
- David Storrs Match Racing Grants + Mentors
The grant program provides reimbursement up to $5,000 per team to pay for expenses such as entry fees, travel expenses, and lodging for one full calendar year. One female and one male skipper are selected for the grant each year. In addition to financial support, the grant program pairs grantees with a mentor who will be available to share veteran advice, ensure a successful match racing campaign, and continue their participation in the discipline.
