Welcome to your newest exclusive US Sailing Member Benefit – curated content from Dave Dellenbaugh’s Speed & Smarts. Speed & Smarts is a bi-monthly newsletter packed with tips to improve your racing performance. It’s written by America’s Cup winning tactician Dave Dellenbaugh, and each issue is chock-full with instructional advice on tactics, strategy, speed, boathandling and rules.

David Dellenbaugh is the publisher, editor and author of Speed & Smarts racing newsletter. He was the tactician and starting helmsman on America3 during her successful defense of the America’s Cup in 1992 and sailed in three other America’s Cup campaigns from 1986 to 2007. David is also a Lightning world champion, two-time Congressional Cup winner, seven-time Thistle national champion, two-time winner of the Canada’s Cup, three-time U.S. Match Racing Champion and past winner of the U.S. Team Racing Championship. Dellenbaugh is a long-time member of the US Sailing Racing Rules Committee and was its chairman from 2005-2008. He is the creator and narrator of Learn The Racing Rules 2017-2020, an online training course, and he was a coach for the US Sailing Team during the Olympic Games in 2012 and 2016 and the Paralympic Games in 2016. During the past 30 years, David has led hundreds of seminars around the country on tactics, strategy and rules, and has spent hundreds of days on the water coaching sailors in all types of boats.
