Stu McNay and Lara Dallman-Weiss secured “country qualification” on March 3 in Palma De Mallorca, Spain at the 470 World Championship, officially locking in their ticket to Marseille after winning U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Sailing on January 13. This will be McNay’s fifth Olympic Games and Dallman-Weiss’s second.

The final day brought both elation and frustration as the winners were decided in the ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 fleets. Erika Reineke punched her ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympics in the ILCA 6 after seven days of intense racing, while Ford McCann achieved athlete selection and will represent Team USA pending country qualification in the ILCA 7.

After five days of racing just east of Rio de Janeiro, the US brought home a silver medal in Nacra 15 at the 2023 Youth Sailing World Championship in Búzios, Brazil. Overall, the US Youth Team saw five top-ten finishes across 10 disciplines in one of the most competitive youth regattas in the world with 61 nations represented and 400+ athletes.

One of the final regattas of the year to watch takes us to Búzios, Brazil for the prestigious annual Youth Sailing World Championship where 15 athletes will hit the water to represent the USA in classes that prepare youth for transitions to full size Olympic equipment. Racing begins Monday, December 11th and continues through the 15th, 90 miles east of Rio de Janeiro.

As the final day of the Pan Am Games sailing event comes to a close with medal races in seven classes, Team USA continues their success with four more medals. This brings the total US Sailing Team medal count to nine: four gold, three silver, and two bronze. Team USA is also leaving Algarrobo with the most medals and the most Gold medals of the 27 participating countries.

The US Sailing Team has announced the slate of 14 athletes who will represent the United States at this year’s Paris 2024 Test Event taking place in Marseille, France July 7-16. The Test Event will closely mirror the Olympic Games competition, with each country sending one boat per class.
