A new U.S. based Olympic-class racing series takes center stage this week in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for the start of the 2021 West Marine US Open Sailing Series. The Lauderdale Yacht Club will host the first-ever US Open Sailing Series regatta for four days of exciting racing beginning this Friday, January 15 through Monday, January 18.
US Sailing and host yacht clubs at spectacular sailing venues in Florida and California are thrilled to launch a new domestic racing and training series of Olympic-class regattas in 2021. The West Marine US Open Sailing Series offers an increase in high-quality Olympic-class racing for U.S. athletes with a long-term goal of attracting top-level international competitors to race in these regattas for years to come.
William (Bill) Bentsen, a two-time Olympic medalist, National Sailing Hall of Famer, and racing rules expert, died on December 25, 2020 at his home at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Bentsen was 90 years old.
US Sailing has developed a NEW mobile-optimized Racing Rules App that includes the racing rules and other resources, including the ability to file a protest through the app, a whiteboard for diagramming boat-on-boat interactions, and an extensive resource library.
