Harry Melges IV was first introduced to sailing on Lake Geneva on a Melges 24, designed by his grandfather, Harry “Buddy” Melges III. Placing second at the E-Scow Nationals as a 13-year-old jumpstarted his appetite for speed, and his dream of competing in the Olympic Games has only grown stronger since. He found the 49er to be a perfect fit for his Olympic aspirations and is currently campaigning in the class as a Paris 2024 potential candidate. Outside of skiff sailing, Harry has been supplementing his training over the past nine years with time on 40-foot A-Scows and foiling Moths. He is a four-time US National Champion and a six-time ILYA Champion in various one-design classes. He has big aspirations in the world of sailing as he works to follow the family legacy established by both his father and grandfather.

Harry’s two primary athletic passions have been sailing and skiing, and while his ski racing days may be finished, he still carries with him many of the lessons he learned from skiing about how to race and win.
