Eric Anderson

Eric was introduced to sailing in his early teens at a “do-it-all” summer camp. As a high schooler, he learned to race in local competitions and in offshore events on Lake Michigan. He competed in five Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac events and one Newport to Bermuda Race. Although he was a bit big for the Laser, even in high school, Eric drove his van around the Midwest competing in as many Laser events as he could, determined to improve his racing skills. Driven to sail and achieve at the top level, Eric joined the Yale Sailing Team and raced with some of the nation’s best sailors on a team that earned eight National Championships during his four years in the program. Eric’s size led him to the 5o5 class. The collaboration and enthusiasm of the class helped him achieve several top five results at North American Championships and a Bronze medal at the 2019 Worlds with teammate Parker Shinn.

As a relatively new member of the Finn squad, Eric won the 2019 Finn Pacific Coast Championships and turned heads when he finished fourth in the medal race at the 2020 Hempel World Cup Series Miami. Though not selected for Tokyo 2020, Eric is continuing in the Finn as Luke Muller’s training partner as he prepares for next summer’s Olympics.

The best place to look for Eric is on the water, but you might occasionally catch him coding or building something in his garage, as he balances sailing with his job as a Google Software Engineer.
