Emma Cowles, with her black hat, is the crew of the Cowles Twins. Though younger by two minutes, she is slightly taller and therefore the obvious choice for the crew position on the 470. Like Carmen, Emma also started sailing at age nine in the Optimist dinghy at Larchmont Yacht Club, where the two paired up as a strong team in the i420 after transitioning out of the Opti. After three successful years in the i420, the sisters moved into the 470 in 2018. They have naturally retained their roles as skipper and crew: Emma is still slightly taller!
When not sailing, Emma loves to ski and travel to visit her family in Europe. She is the more reserved of the two, and to take her mind off the stress during championships, loves to listen to music. She loves science and math and plans to study engineering and business at Yale University in fall 2021 after deferring her acceptance for two years to campaign for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
