Caleb Paine

Very early on, it was clear that I inherited my father’s love of sailing: I would sail anything I could get my hands on, devoted myself to master the Sabot (a junior singlehanded boat), and made the most of the sailing opportunities provide by Southern California.
Since I rapidly decided to chase the Olympic Rings, I opted out of traditional campus-based college life in favor of a school that would allow me simultaneously to train at a high-performance level.

My Olympic journey started in the Finn Class (a men’s singlehanded, heavyweight dinghy), as a training partner to Olympian Zach Railey. In March 2016, I captured my first US Olympic Sailing Team berth and won a Bronze Medal for the USA at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Today, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games are my focus and my goal is to bring the Gold home!

Please accompany me on the path to the Games! I am very grateful for all your support.
The Olympic journey would not be possible without you.

Q&A’s

When did you start sailing? I started at 7 in the Sabot.
When not sailing, what do you like to do? Skating, skiing, cycling and going to the beach.
Where do you live? I live aboard a 33′ boat with a million-dollar view for only $400 a month!
What are your 2020 goals? I want to move up the podium and take gold! That’s the whole goal. This may be the last Olympics for the Finn so I am going to do everything I possibly can to make that happen.
What does it cost to do an Olympic campaign?
A ballpark figure would be $150K per year prior to the Olympics and then probably $200K during the Olympic year. However, I think I needed more money to do what I think I needed to win gold.
