Athlete Bio:

Caleb Paine grew up in southern California and inherited his father’s love of sailing at an early age. As a kid, he sailed anything he could get his hands on, and devoted himself to mastering the Sabot, a junior-class singlehanded boat. Deciding earlier than most to pursue an Olympic dream, Paine opted out of traditional campus-based college life in favor of a school that would allow him to simultaneously train at a high-performance level.

He began his tenure in the Finn class, a men’s singlehanded, heavyweight dinghy, the quadrennium preceding the London 2012 Olympic Games as Zach Railey’s Training Partner. At the Rio 2016 Selection Series in early March of 2016, Paine came from behind to secure his first US Olympic Sailing Team berth.

In Rio, Paine went on to earn a Bronze Medal for the United States—the first medal for the Team since 2008 and the only U.S. sailor to make the podium in 2016. Following the games, he took some brief time off and has since returned to training full-time for the Tokyo games, this time in pursuit of Gold.
