MINUTES

Call to order:
Vicki Sodaro called the meeting at 2:40 p.m.

The minutes from the Spring meeting were approved.

REPORTS:

Leiter:
There were 82 entries in the event this year hosted by Ida Lewis Yacht Club of Newport, R.I. Brian Doyle was the Head Coach for the clinic. The Leiter winner, Amy Clarke qualifies for the Youth Worlds.

Ida Lewis:
Hosted this year by Oklahoma City Boat Club.

Adams:
Great event held at the San Diego Yacht Club with 11 entries, sailed in Etchells.

Rolex:
Check the web site and sign on for information. New venue and boat: Annapolis Yacht Club in J-22's. Rolex is committing to the J-22 and the Annapolis site through 2003.

U.S. Women's Challenge:
The Bettina Bents has been changed to a Match Racing event, either Grade 4 or 3. It will be held in Santana 20's with a crew of 3 during April.

Olympic & ISAF:
CONGRATS TO PEASE!!!! The emphasis at the Fall ISAF meeting will be to try and get a commitment to the type of boat and number of crew for the Olympic Women's Match Racing. Corey will present the U.S. Sailing submission as recommending a 3 person boat (for ease of preparing). The U.S. would like to see a decision made this fall although other countries would rather hold off. Much discussion on Women's Match Racing venues, boats, and numbers ensued.

NEW BUSINESS:

Women's Open:
A proposal to change the Women's Open to the U.S. Women's match Racing Championship was presented. The Southern Yacht Club of New Orleans volunteered to host this event for the first 2 years. The top 12 U.S. sailors (per ISAF rankings) would be invited to compete in J-22's.

Motion proposed by Faye Bennet, 2nd by Betsy Beddow:
The Women's Sailing committee recommends that the Allegra Knapp Mertz Trophy be presented to the winner of the U.S. Women's National Match Race Championship. Motion passed.

Match Racing:
A proposal to ISAF from Eastport Yacht Club and the Borlands to host the Women's Match Racing World Championship in 2004 was presented to the Women's Committee for recommendation to the US SAILING Board of Directors. Discussion followed on the ?endorsement of the proposal and the site selection process.

Motion proposed by Cory Sertl, 2nd by Vicki Sodaro:
The Women's Sailing Committee recommends to the U.S. Sailing Board of Directors to endorse the Letter of Intent from Eastport Yacht Club to host a future Women's match Racing Worlds, pending formal application per ISAF requirements. Motion passed.
 

OTHER BUSINESS

Vicki Sodaro announced the new Chairman of the Women's Committee is Susan Epstein.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:00 p.m.
