- About Us
Our focus is on providing a continuum of learning and on-the- water experience – from the entry ramp to the podium platform.
Over the last five years, the Reach initiative has introduced 500,000+ middle-school-aged students to sailing while using sailing as a platform for learning critical academic and career skills. The majority of these students live in underserved communities and 90% are first time sailors.
A national network of regional Reach Hubs has been established at community sailing centers in New England, the Mid-Atlantic, and Southern California; and we intend to launch three more Hubs in the next five years. In addition, we are investing in the development of additional curriculum that will offer a progression of more advanced sailing and academic skills to both new and existing Reach students.
A passion for sailing starts at the local level. US Sailing’s First Sail Initiative raises the public’s awareness of sailing and connects newcomers with opportunities in their local communities. In the past year, US Sailing has secured 140 First Sail locations around the country. Local sailing organizations that become locations receive the tools, resources and guidance to introduce sailing to newcomers from their community. First Sail locations receive digital marketing and communications templates, a step-by-step playbook for hosting First Sail events, program guidance and US Sailing’s ongoing support to ensure continued participation.
The US Sailing Foundation is the fundraising entity supporting US Sailing programs, initiatiaves and services through donor investment.
