Recertification Information
US SAILING certified Instructors...keep your certification current! A few years ago you spent three or four days sailing, giving presentations and taking tests to achieve this widely recognized, professional teaching certification - don't let it lapse now. Renewing your qualifications is easy. So stay current, protect your program by keeping your insurance coverage, and remain involved with US SAILING!
Basic Recertification RequirementsUS SAILING Instructor Certifications are valid for three years, but renewing your certification is a simple process. Instructors need only recertify at the highest level of certification they have achieved within each program. For example, if you hold Basic Keelboat and Cruising Instructor Certifications you only need to renew the Cruising Instructor Certification. If you hold Cruising Instructor and Level 2 Coach certifications, you need to renew both. This process is vital to ensure that you can continue to teach sailing without jeopardizing your sailing program's insurance by not holding current US SAILING Certification. For those of you who work for programs which issue US SAILING Student Certification, please note that you can only certify students if your Instructor Certification is current. To recertify: (submit secure online recertification form) or 1. Fill in the US SAILING Instructor Recertification Form, noting courses taught during the past three years. 2. Send photocopies of current First Aid and CPR (from American Red Cross, American Heart Association or Green Cross/National Safety Council) certification cards. Remember, your certification is not valid without current First Aid and CPR cards accompanying your current US SAILING Instructor Certification Card. Fax the copies to 401-683-0840 or mail them to PO Box 1260, Portsmouth, RI 02871. 3. Hold current US SAILING Adult Membership. If your membership has lapsed, please renew your membership; this fee includes General Liability Instructor Insurance. 4. Enclose the recertification fee (charged to your credit card if you recertify online). As soon as you complete the above, your new US SAILING instructor card, hat, and any updated training materials will be sent to you. Thank you for your continuing support of US SAILING and the sport!
