SMALL BOAT SAILING
LEVEL 2 COACH WORKSHOP


INFORMATION & PREREQUISITES

 A.     Small Boat Sailing Level 2 Coach Workshop Goals:
The US SAILING Small Boat Sailing Level 2 Coach Workshop is designed to provide coaches with information on how to effectively develop performance boat handling and racing skills and to instill in athletes the importance of ethical behavior and sportsmanship in the sport of sailing.  Topics covered include performance boathandling, on-water skill development, race training drills, tactics and strategies, the racing rules of sailing, program planning, coaching theory and effective communication.

 B.      Prerequisites for Entrance into the Workshop:           
 1.  Current US SAILING Small Boat Sailing Level 1 Instructor certification is needed to gain certification. Candidates who do not have Level 1 certification may attend, but will not be certified until they sucessfully complete Level 1.
 2.   If Coach Candidate is under the age of 18, one season of experience as a US SAILING Small Boat Sailing Level 1 “Sailing Assistant” is required.
 3. 
Current USCG approved CPR and First aid certification. CPR and First Aid certification are not required to take the course but are required for certification as an instructor. A state licensed EMT or physician whose CPR certification is renewed annually is also accepted. Please bring copies of your cards to the course.

4.   Current US SAILING Adult Individual Membership.
5.   Experience in racing small boats such as prams, dinghies, mutihulls or daysailing keelboats.
6.   Completed Application Form accompanied by appropriate course fees.
7.   Completed Medical Form provided to the Coach Trainer before the course begins.

 C.      Certification will be granted to those who:

                1  participate in the workshop in its entirety

                2. receive a positive evaluation from the Coach Trainer

                3.  pass all online tests and submit essay.

D.     Level 2 Course Materials:

                1.   Small Boat Sailing Level 2 Coach Workbook  (provided at the workshop)

   2.. Sailing Drills Made Easy by Geoff Becker  (provided at the workshop)

                3.   The current version of Racing Rules of Sailing (Provided by the Coach Candidates. Available through US SAILING)                         

 E.      Length of Course:

Two full days.

 F.      Recommended Number of Coach Candidates Per Course:

                8‑18 Candidates

 G.    Certification of Small Boat Sailing Level 2 Coaches:

          Cetification will be for three years providing First Aid, CPR, Level 1 instructor certification and US SAILING Adult Membership are kept current; Coach certification is renewable.

 H.     Minimum Age Limit For Small Boat Sailing Level 2 Coach Qualification:

·       A US SAILING recognized Small Boat Sailing Level 2 Coach must be at least 18 years old.

·       To attend a US SAILING coach course, the participant must be at least 17 years old.  Upon successful completion of a coach certification process, the 17 year old will be designated a Coaching Assistant until turning 18.  The Training Office may then be contacted to obtain a Coach’s certification card.     

 I.       Course Fees:

·       $280 Small Boat Sailing Level 2 Coach Course; a $50 late fee will be added for late registrations

·       $60 US SAILING Adult Individual Membership

Cancellation policy:

Course fees are nonrefundable.
For cancellations more than 4 weeks before the course date, the fee is transferable to another course.
For cancellations within the 4 week period, ½ of the course fee will be transferable to another course.
For no-shows, 100% of the course fee is forfeited.

REGISTRATION FOR ALL US SAILING TRAINING COURSES IS ON A FIRST COME, FIRST PAY BASIS. COURSE FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.
