Larr Award The "Ginny" The Prosser  

The Timothea Larr Award

The purpose of this award is to recognize a person whose vision and guidance
have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of sailor education
in the United States. The award may be made to any individual who, in the opinion of the US SAILING Training Committee Selection Team, fully meets this criterion.

The trophy is Training's highest honor, and is awarded each fall at the Annual General Meeting. Any US SAILING member may nominate a person for the Timothea Larr Award.
Nominees for the award should be members of US SAILING and also embody the
highest principles of honor, integrity and a selfless dedication to the sport.

Captain Joe Prosser Award for Excellence in Sailing

The Captain Joe Prosser Award was awarded this year at US SAILING's National Sailing Programs Symposium in cooperation with the United States Merchant Marine Academy's Sail Training Program (Kings Point, NY). This prestigious award was created to recognize the life achievement of the Merchant Marine Academy's first sailing master, Captain C.A. "Joe" Prosser, USMS.

Eligibility for the award is as follows: The award may be to an organization which has, in the opinion of the US SAILING Training Committee, made an exemplary contribution toward improving the quality and safety in the training or instruction of sailors. 

Nominees for the award should be members of US SAILING, and may be professionals in the field of sailing instruction. Organizations may be either "for-profit" or "not-for-profit"; and may be engaged in sailing instruction on a part-time or full-time basis. Nominees shall embody all characteristics of sportsmen: namely honor, integrity and a selfless dedication to the sport. In addition to the trophy, a $500 credit funded by US SAILING’s Training Committee will be awarded annually to the selected school or program for Instructor Training.

The Sail Training Service and Support Award in Honor of Virginia Long

The Sail Training Service and Support Award in honor of Virginia Long recognizes individuals who, through their efforts, unselfishly assist and enable a sailing program or sailing instruction in a supportive role. This US SAILING perpetual award and recipient keeper plaque is donated by Starkweather & Shepley Insurance.
 

Target Group:
Recipients of this award are those whose outstanding efforts enable and support Excellence and Safety in sailing instruction and/or programs, but do not necessarily teach themselves.  This would include, but is not limited to:  administrators of sailing programs, program managers,
US SAILING Regional Training Coordinators, key non-instructor volunteers, or other individuals who provide the background support to help establish, sustain, or improve sailing education programs and instruction in the United States.

Nominations: Nominations for this award should be submitted in writing or using the online form.  A joint committee of four representatives, two appointed by the Chairman of the Community Sailing Council and two appointed by the Chairman of the Training Committee, will review nominations for this award and choose a worthy recipient.  Please email your nominations to NSPS@ussailing.org, or fax your nomination to the attention of the Training Department at 401-683-0840. Award Presentation: Presentation of the Award will be at the National Sailing Programs Symposium by the President of US SAILING and joined by the Chair of the Training Committee, the Chair of the Community Sailing Council and a representative of Starkweather & Shepley Insurance.
